MYSS TC Spotlight: Coach Joe

Our next featured Teacher Counselor is Coach Joe! Coach Joe started with us over 3 years ago and he’s found his place with us specifically with the intermediate and advanced swimmers AND with our nifty science experiments every Friday. In his spare time before we start our MYSS day and after, he sometimes enjoys the short ride from his place to Camp on his motorcycle. How cool is that!?! The campers love to awe over his motorcycle helmet. Coach Joe likes to live on the wild side! In his own words…

“Hi, my name is Coach Joseph and I am from East Rutherford, NJ

I currently teach 3rd grade at St Rose of Lima Academy in Short Hills, NJ

This will be my third year at Miss Yvonne Swim School and my favorite part of camp is seeing the children smile when they achieve a new step in their progress of becoming an amazing swimmer. I love all the outdoor fun that goes along with the camp as well.

I have been working with children since I was a child. I began as a camp counselor at the age of 16 and guided 1st through 3rd graders in daily outdoor activities. Later on, I became a driving instructor and taught the six-hour behind the wheel lessons for kids attaining their drivers permit. This inspired me to further my education and become an elementary teacher.

My greatest accomplishment was becoming a United States Marine in 2000 and I keep all the principles I learned with me in classroom management and my daily life.

One fun fact about me is that I can play any song with my hands as a flute!

This summer, my goals are to continue making each child feel like they can do anything they put their mind to. I love to make each child feel the way that they deserve….. special and unique!”
